MAS Community Center in Glance
  • It is no secret that establishing a strong American Muslim community, one that brings a message of mercy and hope to a society that yearns for one, is indeed what we seek today. This can be done with the well-planned functioning institutions whose services carry our community from being cultural Muslims to engaged Muslims, proactively dealing with the challenges that face us as individuals, families, and a community. These challenges face our elders and our youth, from immigration issues to peer pressure. We must take the necessary steps today and during this month of Ramadan to secure the future for the next generation.
  • It is by Allah’s blessings upon us, first and foremost, and then by the help of the engaged and sincere hearts of our community members that we have embarked on the MAS Community Center project - an Islamic school, Masjid and youth center. The Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center was able to take ownership of the MAS Community Center on Edsall Road last May after putting a down payment of $1.2 Million.
  • This Center houses the fulltime Washington Islamic Academy (WIA), inspired and driven by the need to raise the standards of education. WIA also focuses on developing outstanding students who are well-rounded in both secular and religious sciences, enabling them to become productive Muslim American citizens. Today, Washington Islamic Academy has accepted 182 students from pre-K through 8th grade, and will eventually accommodate over of 300 students.
  • The center will also house a full scale youth center that will be the first of its kind in the Washington metropolitan area. This Center will serve as a hub for all our youth; a substitute to the consistently demoralizing culture that dominates our streets and overwhelms our young; a highlight of our community that will help protect and develop youth of all ages.
  • Now is the time to take full advantage of the opportune month of Ramadan. Now is the time to acknowledge that our community understands the urgency in nourishing our youth. It is time, my dear Brother/Sister, to choose to own and exercise your share of this responsibility. It is time for you to show Allah (swt) your generosity and claim your stake in being a founder of a great institution. It is time to earn praise under Allah’s shade, along with the youth, for making the choice to help raise youth who are obedient and conscientious of Allah!
  • Our goalfor the year 2009/2010 is to collect $1.5 million to finish the pay the construction loan of the project. Our Youth are calling upon:
500 people to donate $1,000 each
750 people to donate $500 each
1,200 people to donate $250 each
2,000 people to donate $100 each
2,500 people to donate $50 each
  • It is time for you to help build an educational and recreational sanctuary for our youth! Take advantage of Allah’s blessing to increase your good deeds. “Say (Prophet), ‘Take action! Allah will see your action – as will His Messenger and the believers – and then you will be returned to Him who knows what is seen and unseen and He will tell what you have been doing.’” [9:105]
